Body Positivity Is Bringing Sexy Back

Creative platform for social change Beauty Without Irony wants to bring a change in mentality and a return to pure beauty that touches people. BWI wants to get rid of prefabricated and mass marketed fashion, music, art, photography, politics and even feelings. Our goal is to become a positive movement and creative platform. A platform that is intelligent and in touch with true feelings. We feel that designers and other artists should celebrate life and bring people joy. What we need now most of all is hope and to see and understand that beauty can also exist in difficult times.

Body positivity is a topic we want to bring to the attention of the larger public. This subject exploded in the media with the rise of social media platforms like Instagram. Being body positive means accepting the body you have as well as the changes in shape and size it may undergo. It’s all about realizing and understanding that your personal worth and your physical state are two separate things.

Boosting your own (body) confidence starts with knowing you’re not the only one with stomach rolls, cellulite, a weird little toe, or any other (totally normal) imperfections for that matter. That’s why it’s really important to see (beauty) influencers showing that health and beauty comes in all shapes, sizes and forms. Luckily there are some body positive role models like Ashley Graham, Jessamyn Stanley (and many more) present on social media platforms.

You can also see a change in Hollywood. We all know that P!nk is a role model in many ways. When P!nk accepted the Video Vanguard Award she gave a speech about self-love, body image and her daughter. Recently, her 6 year old daughter said she was ‘the ugliest girl she knows’ and that she looked like a boy. Here’s one of our favourite parts from the speech:

“And I said to her, ‘Do you see me growing my hair?’ She said, ‘No, mama.’ I said, ‘Do you see me changing my body?’ ‘No, mama.’ ‘Do you see me changing the way I present myself to the world?’ ‘No, mama.’ ‘Do you see me selling out arenas all over the world?’ ‘Yes, Mama.’ ‘OK! So, baby girl. We don’t change. We take the gravel and the shell and we make a pearl. And we help other people to change so they can see more kinds of beauty.’”

If you remember anything form this article, please let it be this: loving yourself comes first – all the rest will follow.
